The Commonwealth Clash is Virginia-Virginia Tech’s annual showdown.
First played in 1895, Tech leaned on physical triple-option years decades ago before shifting to modern tempo identity. After Brent Pry was fired, the Hokies will be looking forward to the James Franklin era. While he's not on campus and working just yet, the flame is burning bright for his arrival.
Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris leads his team into a must-win for the Cavaliers. This will be one game with a lot of ACC implications. At 9-2, Virginia can't overlook Tech, but also needs to pick up No. 10 to secure a trip to Charlotte for the ACC championship
The recruiting overlap across Virginia and North Carolina trenches, receivers and defensive backs keeps stakes elevated for Signing Day leverage between the two programs. There's a catch with Franklin coming into Blacksburg. He'll have recruits following him down from Penn State and Tony Elliott is about to have real in-state competition on the trail. This is a good sign for football in the Commonwealth.
The trophy's hands may be traded annually, but emotional toll never changes.
