A worst-case scenario for Texas A&M fans unfolded late in the first quarter of Friday night's "Lone Star Showdown" against Texas.
Late in the first quarter, with the Aggies on the move, quarterback Marcel Reed - a Heisman Trophy contender - was shaken up after taking a keeper to the Longhorns' 15-yard line. He appeared to stumble while running with the ball, and was down on the turf for several minutes while being tended to by A&M's medical staff.

Reed was able to get back up and walk back to his team's sideline, but he was walking very gingerly. He was replaced at quarterback by Miles O'Neill, but on a third down on the play following Reed's injury, the Aggies tried a running play that went nowhere.
A&M then attempted a 35-yard field goal, but it was blocked by the Horns' Ethan Burke. Texas took over and was able to kick a field goal on its ensuing possession for the game's first points.
Reed was able to return for the game for the next series. He helped lead A&M to kick a game-tying field goal, knotting the score at 3-all past the midway point of the second quarter. Reed then guided the Aggies on a touchdown drive on their next series, as they took a 10-3 lead late in the first half.

During the Longhorns' possession leading to the field goal, Reed appeared to be favoring his left knee, and was jogging along the sideline in an attempt to try and return to the game.
Marcel Reed is testing out that left knee after going down with a non-contact injury on the #Aggies last drive. Looks to be alright but we’ll see on the next drive. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/iLZQwZeO3p

Reed entered Friday night's huge game having passed for 2,752 yards and 25 TDs along with nearly 400 yards rushing and six more scores. He is a huge reason that A&M came in with a chance to finish the regular season at 12-0.
However, that didn't materialize as the Aggies, after leading 10-3 at halftime, gave up 24 second-half points and fell to the Longhorns, 27-17. The loss also knocked A&M out of playing in next week's SEC championship game.
