LSU interim athletic director Verge Ausberry will have full authority to hire the Tigers’ next football coach, according to ESPN.

Ausberry told reporters Friday that a search committee has already been formed to identify Brian Kelly’s replacement. A former LSU linebacker and longtime administrator, Ausberry has been connected to the university for more than three decades and now leads the school most important hire.

LSU and athletic director Scott Woodward mutually agreed to part ways Thursday. He'll workout a $6 million buyout with the school, according to multiple reports. Woodward’s departure followed comments from Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who said he wouldn’t be involved in the next coaching hire.

Kelly’s 10-year, $95 million deal didn't hit the halfway mark. The Tigers fired Kelly on Sunday, one day after a 49-25 home loss to Texas A&M dropped LSU to 5-3.

“We’re LSU,” Ausberry said. “This place is not broken. The athletic department is not broken. We win.”

LSU rolls on with bye week before facing No. 4 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
