Utah Tech guard Chance Trujillo has been suspended one game after throwing a retaliatory punch during a loss to Santa Clara last week, according to TMZ Sports.

The altercation occurred Dec. 3 at the Leavey Center, where Santa Clara’s Allen Graves delivered a late-game dunk over Trujillo. After Graves celebrated and bumped into him, Trujillo turned and swung, sparking a brief on-court incident.

A Utah Tech athletics official confirmed the punishment, noting it was automatic under NCAA rules. “Any player who throws a punch or is involved in a fight receives an automatic ejection and a one-game suspension, so he will be out on Saturday night against Justice University,” the spokesperson said. Trujillo is expected to return Dec. 20 at Weber State.

The sophomore has been a key contributor for the Trailblazers, averaging 11.7 points and 2.4 assists. A Snow College transfer, he was named WAC Newcomer of the Week in the beginning of November after scoring in double figures in three of four games.

As for Graves and Santa Clara, the team continues its push for its first NCAA tournament berth since 1996, when Steve Nash led the Broncos to the second round.
