The Ohio State Buckeyes are keeping one of the best basketball recruits in the country close to home.

Rather than going to a blue blood, 5-star recruit Anthony Thompson has committed to play for OSU, according to Rivals.

Thompson is from Lebanon, Ohio and now plays at the powerhouse Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio.

He's a 6-foot-8 small forward who is ranked as the No. 5 overall player in the Class of 2026.

Thompson chose Ohio State over his other finalist, Indiana, as well as offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan and Texas.

Ohio State now has three commits in his class, and they're all in-state.

Marcus Johnson has already committed from Garfield Heights in the Cleveland area, and Alex Smith from the Columbus-area Upper Arlington (who will play his final high school season at Prolific Prep in Florida).

Thompson is the best of the bunch.

He shot 38.7% from 3-point land on the adidas 3SSB Circuit over the summer while averaging 22.1 points per game.

This is the biggest win Jake Diebler has had since taking over as Ohio State's head coach.

The main challenge now is to keep Thompson. The modern world of recruiting never stops, and this commitment won't feel fully final until Thompson is on campus next fall.

For now, though, it's a big day for the Buckeyes.
