Having fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, the Blue Jays have been determined to improve their roster this offseason in hopes of capturing the title in 2026.

Thus far, they've signed Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and met with Kyle Tucker, arguably the most coveted free agent.

That said, Toronto isn't stopping there. After their closer Jeff Hoffman gave up the lead in the ninth inning of Game 7, the Blue Jays may find another arm to bolster the back end of their bullpen.

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, Robert Suarez is a name that the Blue Jays have shown interest in signing. Last year for the San Diego Padres, Suarez led the National League in saves (40) and finished second overall, trailing only Carlos Estevez of the Kansas City Royals.

Since becoming a closer in 2024, Suarez has accumulated 76 saves over the previous two seasons. For his career, Suarez owns a 2.91 ERA and a 9.4 SO/9.

Out of all positions in free agency, the market for relivers has dried up quickly. Raisel Iglesias, Devin Williams, Ryan Helsley, Emilio Pagan and Phil Maton have all signed already.

Other top options out of the bullpen include Edwin Diaz, Pete Fairbanks, Kyle Finnegan and Luke Weaver, although Weaver is unlikely to be signed as a closer.

Whether or not Toronto will have the money to sign Suarez remains to be seen, as the Blue Jays will also do their best to retain Bo Bichette, a contract that could cost plenty.
