Mariners acquire 25-year-old reliever from Nationals via trade image

The Seattle Mariners have been one of the most active teams in the MLB so far this winter.

On Saturday, Seattle agreed to a trade with the Washington Nationals. The Mariners will be receiving 25-year-old relief pitcher Jose Ferrer from the Nationals in exchange for catching prospect Harry Ford and right-handed pitching prospect Isaac Lyon, MLB insiders Andrew Golden and Jeff Passan confirmed.

It appears that the Mariners are doing whatever is necessary to stay within their World Series title window.

Details on the players exchanged in the Mariners-Nationals trade

The Mariners will be receiving left-handed relief pitcher Jose Ferrer.

Ferrer, 25, was the Nationals' leading pitcher in saves after they parted ways with Kyle Finnegan at the MLB trade deadline. The young pitcher was signed as an international free agent by Washington in 2017 and made his MLB debut in 2023.

Through 142 career appearances, Ferrer has an 8-4 record, 4.36 ERA, and 1.26 WHIP while recording 12 saves and 32 holds over 142.1 innings.

In exchange, the Nationals will be receiving 2021 first-round pick (No. 12 overall), catcher Harry Ford, and right-handed starter Isaac Lyon.

Ford, 22, has appeared in eight games for the Seattle Mariners after making his MLB debut on Sep. 5, 2025. He's registered just six at-bats in the big leagues, tallying one hit and one RBI while striking out three times.

The majority of his professional reps have been in the minors. After getting promoted to Triple-A Tacoma in 2025, Ford finished the season with a.283 batting average,.408 on-base percentage, and a.868 OPS while hitting 16 home runs and 74 RBI.

Lyon, 21, was a 2025 draft pick. So far in his professional career, he's recorded four combined starts in Single-A and the minors, logging a 7.30 ERA. 1.54 WHIP, with 15 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.
