Reports indicated on Sunday that the Pittsburgh Pirates have offered Kyle Schwarber a four-year contract.

Schwarber is regarded as one of the top hitters on the market this winter after hitting 56 home runs a year ago.

He has shown the ability over the past few years to be arguably the best power hitter in Major League Baseball.

Unfortunately for the Philadelphia Phillies, there’s a major price that comes with that.

While it seems unlikely that Schwarber would take a deal with the Pirates if he wants to win, at the very least, this has the potential to raise his price, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

“It’s unclear how detailed actual negotiations between the Phillies and those two players have been. The delay in reaching any agreements might have nothing to do with a gulf between the sides. There is no standoff, at least not yet. The Pittsburgh offer, plus whatever else Schwarber has on the table, could push the Phillies to a larger number,” he wrote.

Schwarber stated a few times at the end of the season that he’s willing to come back to the Phillies.

However, it’s important to remember that a lot of this will come down to money.

If the Pirates have a better offer out there than the Phillies, even by a couple of million dollars, it’s possible he ends up in Pittsburgh.

We can never say anything is impossible in this game.
