The New York Mets' 2025 season ended in utter disappointment. After spending basically the entire year in playoff position, they fell out of the postseason in the final weekend.
That raises big questions and big decisions by default. A team with this much money invested in it isn't supposed to fail that drastically.
One of the early offseason rumors involves the idea of a trade. The Athletic's Will Sammon reports that Japanese right-hander Kodai Senga has multiple clubs interested in dealing for him.
Senga has a 3.00 career MLB ERA, but he had a brutal finish to the 2025 season.
He had a 1.74 ERA in 2025 before a calf strain kept him out for a month.
Once Senga returned from injury, he put up a 5.90 ERA the rest of the way, even earning a demotion to Triple-A Syracuse.

He gave up five runs in 9.2 innings in Triple-A, too small of a sample size to learn much more from.
Senga's contract is manageable for the Mets or another team, if they believe he'll bounce back.
He's owed $14 million for the 2026 season, then another $14 million for the 2027 season.
Senga's deal previously had a full no-trade clause, but now with just two years remaining, he has just a 10-team no-trade list. It's not clear which teams those are.
The former star still has upside. The Mets could likely explain away his second-half struggles to his calf injury.
But there could be other teams thinking the same way. And if they bring enough value to the table, maybe Senga could be on the move.
