The New York Mets need a centerfielder.
Their solution might already be in the organization.
At the GM Meetings this week, Mets front office leader David Stearns told reporters that Carson Benge might make the Opening Day roster.
If that happens, it'd be for Benge to start in center.

Saying center field prospect Carson Benge will have a chance to make the team out of camp.
The 22-year-old hit.281/.385/.472 with 47 extra-base hits and 22 stolen bases starting in High-A and finishing in Triple-A.

Benge was the Mets' 2024 first-round pick out of Oklahoma State at No. 19 overall.
Before the 2025 season, Benge was ranked as the No. 71 overall prospect in the sport by Baseball Prospectus.
He began the 2025 season at High-A Brooklyn, where he batted.302.
From there, Benge went to Double-A Binghamton, where he hit.317.
Benge got a quick cameo at Triple-A Syracuse, too, but hit only.178 at that level.
For the minor league season, Benge batted.281 with 25 doubles, seven triples, 15 homers and 22 stolen bases.
The Mets will likely bring in some kind of veteran option for centerfield. But if they feel Benge is close, they won't have to shell out too much at that spot, knowing Benge is coming sooner rather than later.
