Monroe High School put on a show for the entire City of Rochester.

On Saturday, about 90 minutes east at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, the Red Jackets claimed the NYSPHSAA Class B state championship. They're the first high school state champion ever from the Rochester City School District.

Look how much it meant to them:

It was a bit of a wild game against Sleepy Hollow. Neither team scored in the first half.

And then, in the third quarter, Monroe erupted for 28 points.

The Red Jackets would go on to win, 34-0.

Jermaine Montgomery opened the scoring with a 19-yard rushing touchdown.

Then it was Pooty Cunningham running it in from 4 yards out.

The big play followed, 58 yards from Cunningham to Oregon commit Messiah Hampton.

Ray Garcia and Luis Falu each added a rushing touchdown before the game was done.

Monroe isn't known as a football powerhouse. The school had a 30-year stretch without football before it was reinstated a decade ago.

Now, they spent most of the season ranked No. 1 in the state, and they proved that ranking correct on Saturday.

Monroe, with the entirety of Rochester behind them, have climbed all the way to the top of the glorious, state championship mountaintop.
