A Weekend of rookie exposure

Friday will be particularly interesting as teams fulfill their mandatory driver development quotas.

Nine rookie drivers are set to step into the cars for FP1, meaning established drivers like Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris will take an early break.

McLaren’s home hero, Pato O'Ward, will take Norris’s car in FP1 at his home circuit.

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton will sit out as WEC star Antonio Fuoco takes the wheel, while Mercedes hands George Russell’s car to Frederik Vesti.

All these young drivers will be keen to impress as they eye potential 2026 seats.

The high-altitude challenge of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez means that this early practice data will be vital for teams as they fine-tune their power unit strategies for the remaining races of the season.
