Reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Brodie ‘Bush’ Kostecki will go into Saturday afternoon’s Top 10 Shootout at Mount Panorama on provisional pole—but only by the barest of margins.
Driving a Ford Mustang for Dick Johnson Racing, Kostecki ended a tense and dramatic qualifying session to edge Broc Feeney (Red Bull Racing, Chevrolet Camaro) by just 0.0064 seconds on Friday afternoon.
“That was probably one of the best laps of my career to be honest,” the 27-year-old declared after the nail-biting session.
Even more remarkably, just one fifth of a second separated the top ten drivers ahead of Saturday’s shootout.

“That’s just crazy, off the scale competitive,” Neil Crompton said in commentary for Fox Sports, amazed at the tiny margins around the gruelling 6.2 kilometre circuit.
“It shows how insanely tight it is, that is ridiculous across the top ten.”
Crompton’s commentary partner, six-time Bathurst winner Mark Skaife was just as impressed.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in terms of competitiveness at this place,” Skaife said.
“The top ten down is separated by 0.2 of a second, that’s the closest top ten we’ve ever seen by a mile.”
The Top 10 Shootout begins at 5.05pm (AEDT) on Saturday.
