For the second-straight grand slam tournament, Amanda Anisimova will be playing in the final.
The 24-year-old came back from down a set to defeat Naomi Osaka 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, handing Osaka her first loss in a major semifinal match.
Osaka opened the match strong, breaking Anisimova out of the gate and taking the first set on a convincing tiebreak. For the first half of the match, Osaka appeared to be in control as she answered Anisimova's breaks with breaks of her own.
However, Anisimova got stronger as the match went along. The American returned the favor on Osaka when she controlled the second tiebreak, forcing a third set. Then, Anisimova overpowered Osaka in the final frame to secure the victory.
Now, Anisimova will face defending champion Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday in the US Open final. These two met in the Wimbledon semifinal, which resulted in Anisimova's first grand slam semifinal victory and a trip to the Wimbledon final.
Anisimova lost the ensuing match to Iga Swiatek in a blowout, but she will be looking for a better result this time around.
