Formerly known as the Federation Cup, the Billie Jean King Cup has historically offered an annual opportunity to celebrate women's tennis on an international stage.
In 2020, the tournament was re-named in honor of former world No. 1 Billie Jean King; the men's equivalent to the event is the Davis Cup, which brings together the top international men's tennis teams.

What is the Billie Jean King Cup?
The Billie Jean King Cup is a multi-stage women's tennis competition that involves international teams. First established by the International Lawn Tennis Federation as the Federation Cup in 1963, the event was renamed to the Billie Jean King Cup in 2020 in honor of Billie Jean King, a 10-time winner and global ambassador for the event.
The "BJK Cup" first involves regional groups, where the playoff formats lead to the final tournament. In 2025, a total of 146 nations entered to compete in the international competition, which was a new record. In the April qualifiers, six countries secured a spot in September's finals: Great Britain, Japan, Kazakhstan, Spain, Ukraine and the United States. China earned an automatic qualification for hosting the 2025 event, as did Italy for winning the 2024 event.
The 2025 Billie Jean King Cup finals are being held from Sept. 16-21 at Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre Arena in Shenzhen, China. There will also be separate playoffs held in November, where non-2025 finals teams can earn spots at the 2026 qualifiers.
