Alex de Minaur's nightmare major quarter-final run has continued with a four-set loss to Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in the US Open last eight.
The Australian has now lost all six of his grand slam quarter-finals as he went down 4-6 7-6(7) 7-5 7-6(4) in four hours, 13 minutes.
De Minaur's first serve completely deserted him throughout the match, landing it only 42 per cent of the time and hitting 11 double faults.
Despite winning the first set, having a set point in the second set and leading 5-2 in the fourth set, De Minaur fell short as he added to his list of quarter-final capitulations.
It was De Minaur's third quarter-final loss at the US Open, losing to Dominic Thiem (2020), Jack Draper (2024) and now Auger-Aliassime.
He has also lost in the last eight to Alexander Zverev (French Open 2024), Novak Djokovic in a walkover (Wimbledon 2024) and Jannik Sinner (Australian Open 2025).
"Just a lot of nerves today through the whole match," De Minaur said in his post-match press conference.
"It wasn’t pretty at all times but that’s what grand slam matches are. Sometimes, some days you won’t feel your best but I was willing to dig really deep and do everything I can to stay here, right now."
Eighth-ranked De Minaur will likely finish off the year trying to qualify for the ATP Tour finals for a second time - with the top 8 players getting into the event.
