Novak Djokovic has marked his competitive return to Australia as he takes part in the first week of the Adelaide International.

The Serbian is joining seven other top 10-ranked ATP and WTA players at the event.

Names also featuring in Adelaide are former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and 2022 US Open runner-up Ons Jabeur.

When is the Adelaide International 1?

The Adelaide International is split into two separate tournaments - week one and week two.

January 1, 2023 marked the start of the Adelaide International 1, which is scheduled to wrap up on January 8, 2023.

Adelaide International 1 field

Some of the world's top tennis players have headed to Adelaide to kickstart their Australian summer of tennis, as they finetune their skills ahead of the Australian Open.

2022 US Open and Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur are headlining a competitive women's field in the opening week.

Danielle Collins - who lost out to Ash Barty in the most recent Australian Open final - is also in action, alongside other big names including Aryna Sabalenka, Anett Kontaveit and Bianca Andreescu.

As for the men's draw, all eyes are on Novak Djokovic as he returns to the court in Australia following his deportation saga.

He is being challenged by a deep field, which includes the likes of Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner.

The first few day sessions in Adelaide began at 11:00 am ACDT (11:30 am AEDT), with the final day of action to commence at 2:00 pm ACDT (2:30 pm AEDT).

Where is the Adelaide International 1 held?

The Adelaide International 1 is held at the Memorial Drive Tennis Club, known as 'The Drive'.

It is situated just north of the city's CBD and is adjacent to the Adelaide Oval. 

Regarded as the home of South Australian tennis, the venue features a 5,000-seat capacity centre court, along with the 'Sunken Showcourt' and a number of outside courts.

The Nine Network is providing live coverage for both weeks of the Adelaide International.

Tickets for the Adelaide International 1 are available via Ticketmaster.

General admission tickets start at $10, with kids under 14 able to enter for free alongside a paying adult.

Adelaide International 1 prize money

According to the ATP website, there is just under US $1.5 million in prize money up for grabs at the Adelaide International 1 in 2023. 

The women are battling it out for a share of $826,837, while the men have a pool of $642,735 to contend for. 

The difference in prize money is due to it being a WTA 500 event for women compared to an ATP 250 tournament for men. 

The women's singles champion in 2023 will win $120,000, while the men's singles champion will pocket just under $95,000.
