The Gold Coast Titans centre Carter Gordon appears poised for a high-profile return to rugby, with reports indicating he’s targeting the Wallabies’ No.10 jersey ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup on home soil.

The 24-year-old, thrust into the international rugby spotlight under Eddie Jones at the 2022 World Cup in France, has struggled to find his feet since making the surprising switch to rugby league with the Titans.

Despite his obvious talent, the young Queenslander’s NRL debut was hampered by an unusual neck injury, holding back his first season and limiting his impact.

As a result of a spinal fluid leak that eventually required surgery, he only made his NRL debut in Round 27 this year, helping secure a 36-28 victory over the Wests Tigers.

Causing frustration for both player and club, reports indicate that Gordon and the Titans are considering a potential return to rugby union.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, both Gordon’s management and Titans officials are eager to see the star outside back return to rugby, with discussions of an immediate release underway.

Reports indicate that Gordon is eager to rejoin rugby with the Queensland Reds and has been in recent discussions with Hannay to make the move a reality.

Gordon is not the first to depart the Titans in recent days ahead of the new coach taking the reins, with prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard released on Tuesday to join the London Broncos on a reportedly two-year contract.

Although the Titans are reportedly helping pave the way for Gordon’s return to rugby union, sources say they are in no hurry and would be content to keep him on for the 2026 season if required.
