NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has admitted the huge popularity of Sunday afternoon football this season has made the return of daytime grand finals a distinct possibility.
The NRL has hosted its showpiece event of the season at night since 2013, with the evening timeslot heavily favoured by broadcasters.
However, a monumental change may be in the offing in the near future as the Australian Rugby League Commission weighs up its options ahead of a new broadcast deal.

How the popularity of Sunday arvo footy could lead to NRL grand final change
"It was an important experience for us this year to play more games on a Sunday afternoon," Abdo told Fox League ahead of the decider between Melbourne and Brisbane.
"Daytime football is a different dynamic as there is less dew, the field is fast and we’ve seen some incredible football.
"It’s something that has really resonated with fans."
The NRL is locked into the evening timeslot for the next two years, before a change could possibly be made.
But Abdo admitted it would be right near the top of the agenda for the Commission to discuss in the off-season after receiving record TV ratings with Sunday afternoon matches this campaign.
"The obvious leading question is, will we see an NRL grand final being played during the day?" Abdo stated.
"It’s something the Commission will definitely think about as we start to plan now for the future broadcast deal."
This development follows on from recent comments made by former NRL chief David Gallop, who admitted that the NRL was once beholden to twilight fixtures.
"There was a period when the incremental TV revenue for a night game was critical, but that may not be the case anymore," Gallop said.
"I like when the game finishes in the dark with the presentation and the appearance of a night game," Gallop added.
"Firecrackers always look better at night."
