From drinking too much... to drinking toilet water.
Mal Meninga has weighed into the current self-inflicted dramas at the Brisbane Broncos, lamenting a lack of commonsense at such a crucial time of the NRL season.
Speaking on SEN radio, the former Australian Kangaroos head coach shared his thoughts on the bizarre toilet video incident involving Reece Walsh, while also commenting on Brisbane’s shock decision to drop in-form centre Gehamat Shibasaki for Thursday night’s clash with the Melbourne Storm.
“Obviously he (Shibasaki) turned up to training on Monday inebriated, and it’s a short turnaround with Brisbane playing on Thursday night, so yeah I think so,” Meninga said, agreeing with the decision of Michael Maguire and Brisbane CEO Donaghy.

“Standards are really important—in the modern game it’s important you’re focusing on the health of the footy club as opposed to just yourself,” he continued.
‘It is silly what Reece did’
In terms of the Walsh toilet water incident, Meninga pointed to the public’s ongoing fascination with the polarising fullback as turning a minor event into a full-blown news story.
“It’s Reece Walsh, he’s exciting, he’s good looking, people want to know what he’s up to, and on top of that is the social media side of things where he has a huge presence as well,” Meninga acknowledged.
“It is silly what Reece did, there’s no doubt about that, but I don’t think it will affect the Broncos too much internally to be honest, the players will just laugh, maybe even a few high fives—but given all the outside noise, a bit of commonsense would do a world of wonders.
“It’s a really important game for the (Broncos) in the context of the year, if they win they get top four, so you’ve got to put your commonsense hat on, how can you help the team be the best they can be on Thursday night?”
