Leeds Rhinos half-back Jake Connor has been crowned the 2025 Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel, leaving former Dragons prospect Jai Field and reigning champion Mikey Lewis trailing in the voting.
Connor, who had been top of the leaderboard when voting closed after Round 15, has enjoyed a standout season, cementing himself as one of Super League’s premier talents.
His remarkable campaign also makes him only the second Leeds player this century to win the award, following Zak Hardaker’s treble-winning triumph in 2015.
A season of accolades across Super League
“It’s been an incredible year for Jake, and he fully deserves the recognition for his performances,” a Super League spokesperson said, highlighting his impact on Leeds’ success. Connor’s award coincides with Hull KR coach Willie Peters claiming Coach of the Year for a second consecutive season, after steering the Robins to a historic Challenge Cup triumph and a place in this weekend’s Super League Grand Final against Wigan Warriors.
Other award winners included St Helens youngster Harry Robertson, who was named Young Player of the Year, while in the Women’s Super League, Wigan Warriors completed a clean sweep. Denis Betts took home WSL Coach of the Year, Isabel Rowe was crowned Young Player of the Year, and Eva Hunter won Woman of Steel.
Connor’s Man of Steel accolade marks the high point of a season that has also placed him firmly on the radar for Shaun Wane’s England squad for this autumn’s Ashes series. Meanwhile, Field will hope to bounce back next season after narrowly missing out on the prestigious award, which recognises consistency, skill, and influence on the field.
Super League’s full list of winners also recognised standout performers across the Championship and League One, including Paul McShane (York Knights) and joint winners Zarrin Galea (Workington Town) and Lewis Else (Rochdale Hornets).
