Brisbane fullback Hayze Perham has secured a fresh lifeline, signing a one-year extension with the Broncos after a cruel ACL injury wrecked his 2025 campaign.

The 26-year-old went down in the club’s pre-season clash with the Gold Coast Titans and hasn’t played since, but his resilience through rehab has convinced Brisbane to keep him until the end of 2026.

A journeyman of sorts with previous stints at the Warriors, Eels and Bulldogs, Perham hasn’t featured in first grade since 2023, instead plying his trade in the NSW Cup. His versatility across the backline means he is seen as valuable depth behind star fullback Reece Walsh.

‘Super grateful and really happy’

Despite a frustrating year, Perham said he felt fortunate to remain at Red Hill. “Obviously, things haven't turned out how I hoped, but I've enjoyed being in every day around the boys,” he said. “Rehab is always a tough slog… but I'm learning a lot by being around the group and I'm having a lot of small wins with them. I'm just super grateful and really happy to be here.”

Broncos GM of Football Troy Thomson praised his attitude during recovery. “Hayze has had a bit of bad luck with injury this year, but the coaching staff have all been really impressed by the way he's gone about rehab,” he said.

“Returning from an ACL rupture is hard physically and mentally, but he's taken it in his stride. The contract extension will give Hayze an opportunity to get back on the field in 2026, which we're very much looking forward to.”
