Greg Alexander left stunned by Gold Coast's alleged Craig Bellamy pursuit image

Greg Alexander has expressed disbelief at reports suggesting the Gold Coast Titans could pursue Melbourne Storm mentor Craig Bellamy for the 2027 season, despite already appointing Josh Hannay on a deal running through to 2028.

According to SEN reports, Hannay’s contract allegedly includes a clause that would see him step aside as head coach should Bellamy join the club, something Hannay has since denied.

The revelation has left several former players and commentators questioning the club’s decision-making, given their long-standing struggles with stability.

“I can’t believe the story”

Speaking on SEN 1170 Breakfast, Alexander said the situation left him shaking his head. “Josh is on holiday, somewhere in the world, thinking that he hasn’t even started, and the Titans are already trying to get rid of him,” he said.

“What is going on? I can’t believe this. I can’t believe the story. Pandora’s box has been opened, and they can’t slam it shut.”

Fellow SEN analyst Corey Parker described the scenario as another sign of “instability down on the Gold Coast”, pointing to the revolving door of coaches in recent seasons.

“By all reports, Josh Hannay is an innovator, he’s young, understands the game and has been involved with the Queensland Maroons and Cronulla Sharks for a number of years. Everyone seemed content with it, and then all of a sudden this,” Parker said.

The Titans have gone through four head coaches in eight years, including Des Hasler, who was dismissed after failing to reach the finals in 2025. While CEO Steve Mitchell declined to address the speculation directly, the backlash underscores the perception that Gold Coast’s leadership remains in flux, even before Hannay has led a single pre-season session.
