Elliott Whitehead may have only just called time on his playing career, but a return to Canberra looks to be on the horizon.
The 36-year-old former captain, who spent nine seasons in the capital and racked up over 200 appearances for the Raiders, is being lined up for a role on Ricky Stuart’s football staff.
Whitehead left the NRL at the end of 2024 to join Catalans in France, yet injuries limited him to just five games before he announced his retirement two weeks ago. Despite that, the Englishman’s influence in Canberra remains strong, with the club now eager to bring him back in a mentoring capacity.

Guiding the next generation
During his time with the Raiders, Whitehead was widely regarded as a leader both on and off the pitch, captaining the side and helping foster the culture that underpinned their most competitive seasons of the past decade.
His presence alongside Stuart is expected to provide invaluable guidance to the Green Machine’s crop of emerging forwards.
While no official announcement has been made, the prospect of Whitehead returning to the nation’s capital is being welcomed by Raiders fans, many of whom still see him as one of their own.
After nearly a decade of loyal service, the transition into coaching feels like a natural step for a player who left a lasting imprint on the club.
