Now for the week’s least surprising rugby league news.
After escaping suspension for last weekend’s Super League grand final, former Sydney Roosters star and NZ international Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has gone one better and will officially enter retirement under a four-match ban.
While playing a starring role for in Hull KR’s 24-6 victory, the 36-year-old was also charged by the RFL’s match review panel for two separate incidents at Old Trafford and slapped with a pair of suspensions.
The first was for a shoulder charge on Wigan Warriors playmaker Bevan French while the second involved a push on opposing forward Sam Walters.

Given his professional career is now over, it’s unlikely Waerea-Hargreaves will lose any sleep over the bans that see him end his days as a professional rugby league player the way he always played the game, flirting with the limits of the rulebook.
Basking in the afterglow of the club’s first-ever Super League title, Hull KR officials aren’t especially concerned either, posting a cheeky send-off message for their kiwi enforcer on X overnight.
Hull KR can confirm Treble Winner, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been charged by the Match Review Panel for a ‘Shoulder Charge’ and ‘Other Contrary Behaviour’ from Saturday’s Super League Grand Final.
