Bailey Simonsson has reaffirmed his commitment to the Parramatta Eels after a period of uncertainty around his future, admitting he’s turned a corner both physically and mentally heading into 2026.
The 26-year-old outside back had previously explored options to move away from the club but says an honest conversation with new coach Jason Ryles helped reset his mindset and reignite his passion for the blue and gold.
“Yeah, look it’s been a tough couple of years on injury - no way around that,” Simonsson told Fox Sports.
“My body’s feeling good now, I’ve had a really good offseason and I’m looking forward to next year.”

‘Parra’s where I want to be’
Simonsson revealed that his desire to stay with Parramatta was strengthened after his meeting with Ryles, which prompted him to take accountability for his approach to injuries and form.
“Me and Rylesy sat down, had a really good chat, and a lot of that stuff was on me - how I was handling different things in my life and injuries,” he said.
“I had a bit of a look in the mirror and had to sort myself out and Ryles has been really good through the whole process.
“He said he wanted me at the club, and I want to be there - Parra is where I want to be. My nephews are all Parra fans, family are Parra fans, so I’m just looking forward to the new year.”
Ryles’ message was simple: commit fully or not at all.
“It was more just about buying in, just wanting to make sure that I was all in,” Simonsson said.
“I think Parra’s going in a great direction - you saw at the back end of last year how we finished that season - it’s exciting times for the club.”
Simonsson embracing squad competition
While Simonsson has played both centre and wing during his career, he is open to options on where he lines up next season.
“I prefer playing on the wing, but I still like centre too,” he said.
“Wherever they put me, I’ll be happy to play.”
He also praised incoming halfback Jonah Pezet, who will spend one season at Parramatta before joining Brisbane in 2027.
“He’s an exciting player - everyone saw how good he was in that final against the Dogs,” Simonsson said.
“He’s only going to be with us for a year, but any time you get a quality player in, it’s good depth for the squad. It’s only going to be a positive for us.”
