The Philadelphia Eagles will begin the 2025 NFL season on Thursday night at home against the Dallas Cowboys. It will be a huge night for this organization as they will raise the Super Bowl banner for the second time in franchise history.
Well, the Eagles are going to be facing a Cowboys team without Micah Parsons. Parsons was traded from Dallas to the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay was not the only team that was interested in trading for the superstar pass rusher.
Philadelphia Eagles Almost Traded for Micah Parsons
Eagles' general manager Howie Roseman has been known for making trades and making improvements to the roster. Well, Philadelphia asked the Cowboys about trading for Parsons, but Dallas wouldn't allow him to be traded within the division. ESPN's Adam Schefter said about Dallas refusing to trade Parsons to Philadelphia,
"One team that made a strong play this summer to try to trade for All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons was none other than the Philadelphia Eagles, per league sources. The Eagles called the Cowboys to see if they could acquire Parsons and bring him back to Pennsylvania. But the Cowboys had no interest in trading Parsons in the division, especially to the defending Super-Bowl champion Eagles, whom they open with tonight."
Had the Cowboys actually traded Parsons to the Eagles, there is no doubt that they could have been the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Parsons is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He also played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions. This would have been an ultimate homecoming for him and a dream come true for Parsons had he been traded to the Eagles.
Thankfully, Washington Commanders, New York Giants, and Cowboys fans are thrilled that Parsons was not traded to the Eagles. However, Roseman did a good job of doing his due diligence, but the Eagles acquiring him in a trade felt like a pipe dream anyways.
