Week 8 Fantasy Kicker Rankings

Week 8 Fantasy Kicker Rankings image

After last week's snow game in Denver, fantasy football owners are going to be very aware of the weather going forward, and perhaps no position is affected more by that than kicker. Indoor/warm-weather games are going to take on added importance, but they're not the sole factors in determining who to start. Matchups still play a big role in our Week 8 fantasy kicker rankings.

Heading into Week 7, the Vikings, Chargers, Cowboys, Jaguars, and Bears all were allowing at least 11 fantasy points per game (FPPG) to kickers, and the Seahawks, Bengals, 49ers and Jets were all allowing at least 10 FPPG. It's fair to question just how much FPPG really matters for this position, but as long as the kickers facing these these teams are reasonably accurate and on decent offenses, they will be ranked higher.

WEEK 8 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST

On the flip side, the Steelers, Ravens, and Dolphins were allowing fewer than five FPPG to kickers, while the Titans, Rams, Packers, Cardinals, and Chiefs were allowing fewer than 7.1 FPPG per game. Does that rule out kickers facing those teams? No. As you'll see, Justin Tucker (vs. PIT) is still in the top three because he's as good as anyone in the league, so barring weather worries, there's no reason to bench him.

WEEK 8 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST

We have dropped a few guys who have been consistent starters this year, as Daniel Carlson (@ Browns), Randy Bullock (vs. Titans), Jason Sanders (vs. Rams), and Younghoe Koo (@ Panthers) are all outside our top 10, but none of them are truly off limits. If you have been starting them and want to use them this week, go for it, but with slightly tougher matchups and/or worries about regression, there are other kickers we like a little better.

The byes don't take away any regular starters, as Ka'imi Fairbairn, Josh Lambo, Dustin Hopkins, and Zane Gonzalez are off. Entering Week 7, Tucker, Sanders, and Rodrigo Blankenship were the top-three kickers in fantasy, and all come back from byes this week (along with Dan Bailey). While it's tempting to think you should use a waiver claim to pick them up if they were dropped, that's not a recommended move. Let others in your league ruin their waiver positions for a kicker, but it's worth checking early on Wednesday morning to see if any of those three are available as free agents.
