Raiders WR depth chart: What Amari Cooper retirement means for Jakobi Meyers, Dont'e Thornton image

The Raiders' wide receiver room got a little thinner on Thursday after Amari Cooper informed Las Vegas that he was retiring.

Cooper, 31, was selected to five Pro Bowl across 10 NFL seasons. At his best, he was one of the league's better outside wide recievers, blending strength and speed with impressive twitchiness.

Cooper struggled in his final few seasons but was expected to play real minutes upon returning to the Raiders, the team he spent his first 2.5 seasons on.

With Cooper out of the picture, Las Vegas' WR room looks a little different. Here's a look at the Raiders' depth chart following Cooper's retirement.

Jakobi Meyers

Meyers entered the season as Las Vegas' unquestioned No. 1 receiver. Little has changed after Cooper's retirement — in fact, Meyers very well could see his share of targets swell in Cooper's absence.

Meyers posted his first 1,000-yard season in 2024, doing so while catching passes from Gardner Minshew, Desmond Ridder and Aidan O’Connell. With Geno Smith and Pete Carroll joining the Raiders in 2025, the quarterback room should be steadier, potentially paving the way for another strong campaign for the 28-year-old. With Brock Bowers likely drawing the most attention among Las Vegas’ pass-catchers, Meyers should see plenty of opportunities for success in 2025.

Tre Tucker

A 2023 third-round pick, Tucker took on a more pronounced role in the Raiders' offense in his sophomore season. The 24-year old tallied 47 catches for 539 yards and three scores last season — all career highs. At just 5-8, Tucker projects as a speedy slot receiver capable of finding nooks and crannies underneath. Carroll has shown a willingness to make that sort of a player a fixture in his lineup — just look at Tyler Lockett.

Perhaps Tucker can find a similar role on this year's roster.

Dont'e Thornton

Still just a rookie, Thornton is already earning plaudits for his pass-catching exploits. The 6-foot-5, 185-pound wideout climbed to the top of the depth chart ahead of Las Vegas' season opener vs. the Patriots. Thornton was not all that productive during his collegiate career, maxing out at 661 yards and four touchdowns during his senior season at Tennessee.

But his advanced numbers are captivating. Thornton posted those figures on just 26 catches — good for a 25.4 yards per catch average, the best rate in the country. He posted a 4.3 40-yard dash and can eclipse even the most physical cornerbacks rip passes out of the sky. Thornton stands to see more minutes following Cooper's departure. He's listed as a starter in Las Vegas' most recent depth chart.

Jack Bech

Rounding out the list of Raiders wideouts is rookie Jack Bech. A second-round pick, Bech should get some shine in certain packages. He's a good-not-great athlete whose strength and hands should allow him to stick in the league.

Bech might not have the full package. But a 6-foot-1, 214-pound wideout with elite ball-tracking skills — and the hands to match — is rarely a bad player.  Bech will have ample chances to make an impact in 2025 and beyond.

Why did Amari Cooper retire?

Cooper informed Las Vegas that he no longer has a desire to play, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  The 31-year old amassed 10,033 receiving yards and 64 receiving touchdowns across 10 seasons in the league.
