The Jacksonville Jaguars have completed the first trade of the NFL regular season, sending backup running back Tank Bigsby to the Philadelphia Eagles in return for a 2026 fifth and sixth round draft pick.
The Eagles acquired Bigsby to add depth to their backfield behind star running back Saquon Barkley. Will Shipley is dealing with a rib injury and the Eagles reportedly like Bigsby's upside as a kick returner, per NBC's John Clark.

With Bigsby heading to the defending Super Bowl champions, Jacksonville is left with three running backs on its roster. Here is the impact that trading away Bigsby will have on the Jaguars' remaining backs.
Jaguars RB depth chart
Position | Player |
1 | Travis Etienne Jr. |
2 | Bhayshul Tuten |
3 | LeQuint Allen Jr. |
Travis Etienne Jr.
Etienne Jr. looked like he could be on the bubble this season after a disappointing 2024. He played in 15 games and had 150 carries, but only tallied 558 yards with two touchdowns. There were high expectations for Etienne as he was paired with his college quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the Jaguars offense. Jacksonville picked up his fifth-year option for 2025 and he is set to be a free agent after this season.
Etienne gave the Jacksonville front office a performance in Week 1 that likely led to the move. Etienne had 16 carries for 143 yards and added 13 yards on three receptions. While it was against the Panthers' struggling defense, it was at least a step in the right direction for the veteran back.
Bhayshul Tuten
Tuten is a newcomer to the Jaguars as the franchise drafted him in the fourth round of the 2025 draft. He played his college ball at Virginia Tech and despite being a mid-round pick, many analysts had high expectations for the rookie given the explosiveness he showed while playing for the Hokies. He transferred to Virginia Tech from North Carolina A&T and spent two years in Blacksburg. As a senior, Tuten played in 11 games and had 1,159 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.
He got limited work in his debut behind Etienne and Bigsby with only three carries for 11 yards, but figures to slide in as Etienne's primary backup after the trade.
LeQuint Allen Jr.
Allen was a seventh-round pick by the Jaguars in 2025 draft. He played his college ball at Syracuse, spending three years with the Orange. Allen played in 39 games throughout his collegiate career, accumulating 2,359 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns. In his final season at Syracuse, Allen played in 13 games and tallied 1,021 yards with an impressive 16 scores on the ground. He added 521 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Allen had only one carry for seven yards in his Jaguars debut in Week 1. He should get some run throughout the year, but Tuten is expected to take over the backfield for the Jaguars when Etienne needs a break.

Fantasy football impact of Tank Bigsby trade
Not much changes in Philly with the addition of Bigsby. He isn't going to eat into Barkley's work outside of when the star running back needs a breather. If you want to roster Bigsby as an insurance RB for Barkley, it still feels like Shipley will assume that role when he is healthy. Reports of Bigsby's involvement on special teams doesn't make it seem like he will challenge Shipley to be the backup immediately.
Not much changes for Jacksonville either. Etienne is still the lead running back to roster for the Jaguars. Bigsby getting traded could result in Etienne getting more work, but that is dependent on if he continues to be effective. If he starts looking like his 2024 self, the hook could be quick for the Jacksonville to go to Tuten.
The rookie Tuten likely benefits the most from this move. Fantasy football analysts were already very high on him as Etienne's handcuff and backup, but this trade solidifies it. With Etienne set to become a free agent after the season, if Jacksonville doesn't re-sign him, Tuten's value in dynasty leagues would increase substantially.
