After scoring 37 points in week two against the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Giants offense went back to its old ways of not being able to score the football. During the 22-9 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers was a non-factor.
What was very disturbing is that he was not used properly during the game. The Giants did not do enough to force feed him the football. Nabers only caught two passes for 13 yards receiving. He also got injured during the second half on a horrible throw from Russell Wilson. His frustration is growing by the minute.
Former NFL Quarterback Bashes New York Giants for not using Malik Nabers Properly
It is mind boggling that the Giants best player barely touched the ball during the game against the Chiefs. He needs to be seeing eight to 10 targets a game at the very least. ESPN's Dan Orlovsky went onto his Twitter page and got very critical of this franchise. He said,
"The Giants are turning Nabers into an old school Baylor WR Just run fast and straight every play What are we doing?!?!?!!?"
During the first three games of the season, he has only caught 16 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns, along with averaging 15.7 yards per reception. Nabers has also been targeted 32 times. He is by far the best player on this roster, but he needs to ball in his hands more often.
Having two yards for 13 yards receiving is unacceptable for him and this team. The coaching staff is largely to blame for this poor offensive scheme. The Giants next game will be against the Los Angeles Chargers. They are 3-0 and well coached. Despite their defense being really good, they must get him the football early and often in week four.
If he has another ineffective performance against the Chargers, the frustration is going to boil over with the coaching staff, Nabers, and the entire locker room. A chronic losing culture creates turmoil and dysfunction with an organization. Maybe the star wide receiver would play better if the coaches knew how to scheme better and also maybe switching from Russell Wilson to rookie Jaxson Dart might be the answer.
