There were many questions about the way the Miami Dolphins have been practicing under head coach Mike McDaniel during the course of training camp. Well, those questions turned into major concerns for Miami after they lost in a big way on the road against the Indianapolis Colts by a final score of 33-8.
This loss for the Dolphins could potentially signal that a long year is ahead for them. Miami didn't show much fight in the game against Indianapolis from the opening kickoff until the end of the game. If they continue to play this poorly during the course of the 2025 NFL season, Miami could potentially make a change at head coach during the middle of the 2025 NFL season.
NFL Insider Believes That Miami Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel Could be the First Head Coach Fired In 2025
There are always preseason predictions about which head coach could be the first head coach fired during a regular season. With the way the Dolphins performed on Sunday, there is a very good chance that McDaniel is the first head coach fired during the 2025 NFL season.
FOX Sports NFL insider Greg Auman believes that it is a real possibility for the Dolphins in 2025. Auman said,
"Miami was a tough team to peg entering the season, but it’s hard to anticipate the Dolphins being down 30-0 to the Colts in the fourth quarter in Week 1. No plays longer than 21 yards, little life on either side of the ball. Three turnovers, two from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa — this is the kind of game that puts a clock on Mike McDaniel, who now faces a trio of divisional games, none of which look like easy wins. If Miami opens 0-4 and 0-3 in the AFC East, how much more leeway does he have before he’s the first NFL coach fired in 2025? "
If McDaniel does get fired in 2025, there is also a very good chance that general manager Chris Grier will also be fired as well. This could be the golden chance for the Dolphins to clean house if things go south for them in 2025. If McDaniel and Grier were to be fired during the season, then there is also a very good chance that Tua Tagovailoa will not be the quarterback for this team in 2026.
The new head coach and general manager will want to draft their own quarterback. It appears as if McDaniel has already lost the locker room in Week 1 for Miami. The Dolphins will host the New England Patriots next week. If Miami does not win that game, then McDaniel's seat is only going to get hotter.
