The Kansas City Chiefs are 0-2 to begin a season for the first time since 2014. Patrick Mahomes has lost three straight games for the first time in his NFL career, dating back to the 2025 Super Bowl.
The Chiefs fell in Week 2, 20-17, to the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a Super Bowl rematch, but despite being in the friendly confines of Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs couldn't come up with a win. The result wasn't surprising in a tough matchup, but it is cause for concern with how the team has looked so far in 2025.
Patrick Mahomes doesn't look like his normal MVP self. Sure, he doesn't have two of his top wide receivers due to a suspension (Rashee Rice) and an injury (Xavier Worthy), but the Mahomes that has taken over the league is known for persisting through that adversity.
When the dust settled on the loss, Mahomes' stat line could make you turn your head. He finished with fewer than 200 yards passing, with only one passing touchdown and a regular-season career-high 67 rushing yards. IT feels like the Chiefs lack their normal dominant identity, and that starts under center.

Here is more on Mahomes' stats against the Eagles in Week 2.
Patrick Mahomes stats today
- Pass Attempts: 29
- Pass Completions: 16
- Passing Yards: 187
- Passing TDs: 1
- Interceptions: 1
- QBR: 72.1
- Rush Attempts: 7
- Rush Yards: 66
- Rushing TDs: 1
When looking at the stats, you might do a double-take. Mahomes is known to scramble when he has to, but he is definitely more known for his arm than his legs. While he had the second-worst quarterback rating of his career, he had one of the better rushing performances in a game.
Mahomes' numbers are even slightly inflated from the team's last drive. He hit Tyquan Thornton for a 49-yard touchdown to get within three with three minutes left in the game. Before the touchdown heave, Mahomes had the second-lowest QBR of his career.
Something just seems off with the Chiefs. The loss to the Eagles isn't that bad in the grand scheme of the season, as Philadelphia was expected to be a top team in the league again. But pairing the result with how Mahomes looked, and with the Week 1 loss, Kansas City needs a bounce-back in the worst way in Week 3 against the New York Giants.

What is QBR?
QBR is a metric that was developed by ESPN to try to take all of the facets of a quarterback's performance. It expanded on the previously used passer rating, and includes rushing, fumbles, sacks and situational context. It runs on a 0-100 scale with a 50 QBR being an average performance. ESPN explains it's metric and formula here.
