The Indianapolis Colts finished with an 8-9 record during the 2024 NFL season, and they have not made the playoffs since the 2020 NFL season. Colts' fans wanted head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard fired after missing the playoffs once again.
Instead, Steichen and Ballard are around for at least another NFL season. Well, if things go south for the Colts in 2025, there is a chance that both Ballard and Steichen could potentially be fired mid-season. This is Steichen's third season as the head coach for Indianapolis. A lot of issues with the roster have to do more with Ballard rather than the head coach.
NFL Draft Analyst Thinks that Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen Will Be the First Head Coach Fired In 2025
One of the biggest questions before the start of every NFL season is which NFL head coach is going to get fired first. Well, a few potential candidates are Steichen, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, and Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Dane Brugler, who is an NFL Draft analyst for the Athletic said about Steichen potentially being the first head coach fired this season,
"Shane Steichen. There is plenty of talent on the Indianapolis roster, but if the Colts don't get consistency from the quarterback position, the losses could pile up and force a move."
Daniel Jones is going to be the starting quarterback for the Colts and Anthony Richardson will be the backup. Steichen asking Jones to potentially save his job is a tall ask. The Colts will begin the season in Week 1 at home against the Dolphins. The loser of this football game could potentially be in for a very long 2025 NFL season. If Steichen is indeed the first head coach fired, there is a good chance that Ballard is also going to be fired.
