The Houston Texans struggled to score points against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. The defense kept the Texans in the game against the Rams, until Houston lost the game against Los Angeles by a final score of 14-9.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 70.4% of his passes for 188 yards and one interception. Stroud did not have a single passing touchdown in this football game. He struggled during his second NFL season for the Texans. Stroud did not have a great showing in Week 1 despite completing a lot of his passes.
NFL Insider Lists Houston Texans Quarterback C.J. Stroud as a Loser in Week 1
Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports listed his winners and losers for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Schwab believes that Stroud did not play well in Week 1 against the Rams and was one of his losers. Schwab said about the Texans starting quarterback,
"Last season, Stroud’s numbers fell off in large part because the offensive line in front of him wasn’t very good.
The Texans did very little to fix those issues in the offseason. And, predictably, Stroud struggled again.
The Rams pressured Stroud often and ground out a 14-9 victory over the Texans. Stroud had 188 yards and the Texans didn’t score a touchdown Sunday. It's not Stroud's fault that the Texans have ignored fixing their offensive line, but he's the one who will suffer the most because of it.
The Texans have a good defense and the running game wasn’t bad Sunday. But it’s hard to function in the NFL if the passing game can’t get going because the offensive line can’t protect the quarterback. That could be a season-long issue in Houston. Again."
Well, in defense of the Texans offensive line, many NFL offensive lines this season are going to struggle against the Rams defensive unit. It is only Week 1 for Houston and maybe the offensive line will get better and maybe Stroud will get into sync with the wide receivers as the season progresses.
The Texans next opponent will be against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. If the offensive line and Stroud look better against Tampa Bay's defense, then they will be just fine. If not, then Houston's offense will be concerning once again in 2025 because the Texans have a very good defensive unit.
