Tarleton State University is located in Stephenville, Texas, and is a rising Texas A&M University System member. Largely considered the fastest-growing institution in the system, the School drew national headlines earlier this year for defeating Army at home, 30-27, in double overtime. Known as the Tarleton Texans, the athletics program competes at the NCAA Division I level, and its athletic programs have quickly established a strong presence since moving up from Division II.

Stephenville, TX, is home to the Tarleton State Texans.

Stephenville, TX, is located just two hours west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, embodying the essence of a true Texas town. Tarleton State University currently offers 17 NCAA Division I sports, including football, basketball, and baseball. For most of its sports, the university is a member of the United Athletic Conference (UAC). This league was formed from the merger and rebranding of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and the ASUN Conference.

Starting July 1, 2026, nearly all of Tarleton State's sports teams, including football, basketball, and baseball, will compete in the United Athletic Conference, while beach volleyball will continue to compete in Conference USA.
