2021 NBA Summer League: Who are the Australians and NBL players playing in Summer League? image

The 2021 NBA Summer League is set to tip off on Monday, Aug. 9 (AEST) in Las Vegas.

All 30 NBA teams are represented at the summer showcase where players have the opportunity to try and crack a roster, land with a G League team or simply get noticed to be on the radar of franchises in the future.

At this year's Summer League, there will be four Australians and several players with NBL ties taking the floor.

  • Giddey was the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and the Aussie playmaker's NBA Summer League debut will must-see-TV, going head-to-head against No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham on Monday, Aug. 9 at 10:30 a.m. AEST.
  • Green is on the Mavericks' Summer League roster but it is unknown when he will be available, given that he just helped the Boomers take home the Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
  • Maker spent the last season in the G League, playing for the Rio Grand Valley Vipers. He averaged 5.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 30 games.

  • Bowen spent one year in the NBL's Next Stars program before going undrafted in 2019. He appeared in six games for the Pacers last season but played the majority of his basketball for the G League Fort Wayne Mad Ants, where he averaged 11.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists over 15 games.
  • Hampton was also a product of the NBL's Next Stars program. He was selected by the Nuggets in the 2020 NBA Draft and traded to the Magic at the trade deadline in his rookie season. He averaged 11.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 26 games with the Magic.
  • Jessup was drafted by the Warriors in 2020 but played in the NBL with the Hawks this past season. He averaged 13.2 points and shot 34.3 percent from 3 on 5.6 attempts per game for Illawarra.
  • Oliver has played two seasons with the Taipans, averaging 17.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.5 blocks per game over two years. After averaging a double-double in the NBL last season, Oliver got an opportunity to make his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets, where the forward averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds over four games.
  • Simon made his impact felt in his first NBL season, taking home the NBL's Best Defensive Player award in 2021. He averaged 8.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game for the Hawks.
