The Chicago Bulls added a talented Australian to their roster during the 2025 NBA Draft, when they selected Illawarra Hawks star Lachlan Olbrich with the 55th pick.

A reigning NBL champion, Olbrich heads to the Windy City on a two-way deal, hoping to become the latest Aussie to stick in the world's top basketball league.

To do so, one player who will have plenty of advice for him will be Bulls teammate Josh Giddey, who the Bulls rookie has plenty of history with down under.

Both Lachlan Olbrich and Josh Giddey spent time in the NBL before being drafted to the NBA, and now the pair will have the chance to share the floor for the Chicago Bulls this season.

Following Olbrich's selection by the team, the Adelaide-born big man has explained how he and his soon-to-be point guard built up a relationship over the past few years.

"[I know Josh] pretty well, that's my boy," Olbrich said.

"We're from different cities in Australia so we haven't grown up with each other, but I'm from Adelaide and we've had some tournaments where we go to Melbourne, his home town, and I played against him like two times in reps.

"Then he was in the AIS a year before I was there so we kind of missed each other on those pathways, he was in Adelaide when I wasn't, but we've touched base in the last year quite a few times so hopefully we get him back here real quick and get to work."

Giddey is currently a restricted free agent, meaning he can field offers from any NBA team with the Bulls having the option to match, but the Australian is expected to reach an extension with Chicago in the coming weeks.
