Celtics' Joe Mazzulla makes Jayson Tatum injury announcement after brutal non-contact fall image

It didn't look good for Jayson Tatum.

But as of Monday night's postgame press conference, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla didn't want to say much.

According to The Athletic's Jay King:

"Joe Mazzulla said the Celtics don’t have an update on Jayson Tatum yet. He said Tatum will have an MRI tomorrow. Hasn’t provided many more details than that yet."

The non-contact injury to Tatum's lower right leg looks dangerously like an Achilles issue. The NBA just lost superstar Damian Lillard of the Bucks to that injury, too.

It makes sense that the Celtics wouldn't confirm any sort of injury yet.

But almost certainly, there are fears for the worst.

Boston went down 3-1 in its series against the Knicks and somehow that almost feels secondary.

Tatum's present and future health is crucial to everything the Celtics do. Without him, they are hollow.

And for at least a little while, until either an insider breaks more news or the Celtics get Tatum his MRI, Boston fans will just be thinking about it, totally not knowing what might happen.
