Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob Latz made his third consecutive start for the team against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night. Latz has been pitching in the bullpen for most of the season for Texas.

In the game, he pitched 5.2 innings and only gave up three hits in a 5-0 win for the Rangers over the Brewers. Latz also only walked one batter and struck out four batters. He has stepped up in a big way over his last couple of starts for Texas in the midst of a playoff chase. It was the third time this season that Latz had to start a game for the Rangers. They still trail the Seattle Mariners by 1.5 games for the last wild card spot in the American League.

Texas Rangers Jacob Latz Making a Case to Be a Starting Pitcher In 2026

With Latz being in the bullpen for most of the season and being a starting pitcher on the fly, he has been able to help the Rangers rotation in a big way. The other current pitchers in the rotation right now are Jacob deGrom, Merrill Kelly, Jack Leiter, and Patrick Corbin.

Nathan Eovaldi and Tyler Mahle are currently on the injured list for Texas, so this is why Latz has had to step up in the rotation. He is 29 years old. During the 2025 regular season, Latz has pitched 74.1 innings and has given up 60 hits and 25 runs. He has also walked 32 batters and has struck out 66 batters.

With Kelly projected to be a free agent this offseason, it is unknown if Texas will be able to re-sign him. This is why they may have to keep Latz in the rotation for the 2026 season. He will most likely make a couple of more starts for the Rangers before the 2025 season concludes. The starting rotation is going to be a major question mark for Texas in the offseason. If they keep Latz as a starter moving forward, it is one less thing for this organization to worry about.
