The Texas Rangers have a 79-72 record this season and they trail the Houston Astros by three games for the final wild card spot in the American League. Texas has been trying to climb into the playoff race over the last month.
The Rangers are currently in a three-game series against the Astros. Texas has to win its next two games against Houston, or their playoff hopes will be fading away. Why have the Rangers been struggling during the 2025 MLB season?
Injuries Have Derailed the Texas Rangers in 2025
Even if Texas doesn't make the playoffs, the Rangers will most likely finish with a .500 record or better under manager Bruce Bochy. Tim Britton, Chad Jennings, and Levi Weaver of the Athletic updated there MLB power rankings and they have the Rangers at number 12.
Weaver said about the Rangers 2025 MLB season up to this point,
"It didn’t make sense when the Rangers’ offense was so bad earlier this year. It didn’t make sense when their run differential was better than the rest of their division anyway, and it didn’t make sense when that was only good for a battle with the Angels for fourth place in the division.
So why would they make a late push in any way that doesn’t defy logic? With approximately a Pittsburgh Pirates roster worth of salary on the IL, they’re making a push for both a wild-card position and the division behind the “Little Rascals” — a group of relative unknowns. This series in Houston might be make-or-break time. Or at least it should be. Logically. For whatever that’s worth."
Some of the current players on the Rangers roster who is currently on the injured list are shortstop Corey Seager, second baseman Marcus Semien, pitcher Danny Coulombe, outfielder Sam Haggerty, and outfielder Evan Carter. Seager, Semien, and Carter are some of the key players on the Rangers roster.
It is amazing that the Rangers are even in the playoff race without those players. Texas fans can be critical of the manager all they want. Injuries have been the major issue with the Rangers for the majority of the 2025 MLB season.
