The Houston Astrosmissed the playoffs in 2025 for the first time since the 2016 season. With the Astros missing the playoffs, there are questions about what this team is going to do in the offseason.

Is Houston a team that can potentially make one more run in 2026 or are they going to have to potentially start a rebuild with a championship window closed? The biggest question for this organization will be is will they bring back general manager Dana Brown. His contract contains a club option for the 2026 MLB season.

His Future Is Unknown

With his contract containing a club option, his club option has yet to be picked up for the 2026 MLB season, according to the USA Today. Brown did not want to talk about his current contract status with the Astros, but he believes that he is going be with the team for the long haul.

Brown said,

"I don’t want to talk about my contract right now. But I will tell you. that I am the GM of the Astros."

He also added,

"As I said, I’m the GM of the Astros, and that’s what I would expect to be tomorrow and the next day and the next day."

If this team plans on bringing him back for the 2026 MLB season, then Brown will need to make the proper adjustments for this team to be a World Series contender. If they don't bring him back, then there is a chance that this franchise is potentially going to head in a different direction.

One of the main reasons why they missed the playoffs was because of Yordan Alvarez's ankle injury he suffered with around two weeks remaining in the regular season. There are a lot of questions that will need to be answered this offseason, including if Brown's option is going to be picked up or not for the 2026 season.
