When the Chicago Cubs won the World Series against the Cleveland Guardians in 2016, the Cubs ended a 108-year drought. Entering the 2025 postseason, it has been nine years since they have won it all.
This team has a lot of talent on the roster. Chicago is the fourth seed in the National League, and they finished with a 92-70 record during the regular season. They will be facing the San Diego Padres in the wild card round. The Cubs have a very good chance to win another World Series title. If they do, who will be the hero for this team?
ESPN Writer Makes Shocking Chicago Cubs World Series MVP Prediction
David Schoenfield of espn.com wrote about who could potentially be the Cubs World Series MVP if they were to win it all in 2025. He made a shocking prediction and said,
"If they win it all, the 2025 World Series MVP will be: Ian Happ. Tucker has battled multiple injuries in the second half, including a calf injury that sidelined him most of September. Pete Crow-Armstrong has dropped off significantly in the second half. Seiya Suzuki has likewise slumped. Happ is the overlooked member of the Cubs' lineup, but he's a switch-hitter with power, he gets on base, controls his strikeouts reasonably well, has hit well in the second half and usually bats second or third, giving him plenty of RBI and run-scoring opportunities."
This is a surprise because Happ is the third-best player in the lineup. Crow-Armstrong and Tucker would be the top two options for Chicago for potential World Series MVP. Happ during the 2025 MLB season played in 150 games. He had a .243 batting average with 23 home runs and 79 RBIs, along with six stolen bases and three caught stolen bases. His on-base percentage was .342.
No matter what, this lineup is going to be very hard to get out during the postseason. Chicago has a loaded lineup from top to bottom. Even if Happ isn't going to win World Series MVP, he is going to have play well in the postseason in order to win another title in franchise history.
