Channel 7 reporter Liam Cox took on Kelly at a press conference following Manly’s loss to Canberra on Friday night, asking why it took so long for the CEO to front the media.

Cox: Joe, why did it take you a day and half to front up?

Kelly: It came out (Thursday) and until (that) night it didn’t seem to be a Manly issue. It became a Manly issue (on Thursday night)

Cox: The coach (Trent Barrett) wasn’t even here last year and he spoke before you.

Kelly: Well I’m here now, Liam.

Cox: Why didn’t you speak today?

Kelly: We wanted to do this tonight. We didn’t want to do individuals favours during today. We wanted to get everyone here tonight.

Cox: Why didn’t you speak to everyone?

Kelly: I got down here late this afternoon. We released a statement this morning and really we don’t have much more information.

Cox: Why did you dodge us today?

Before Kelly could answer, a Manly official came to his rescue and demanded: “Let’s move on”
