Australia's most elite golfing talent will be chasing history this week, as Minjee Lee attempts to become just the eighth woman to complete a career grand slam.

Lee, 29, heads into Royal Porthcawl in an attempt to claim her maiden title at the Women's British Open, the only major she is yet to win.

It has already been an impressive year for the fifth-ranked golfer on the Women's PGA, after she took out the Women's PGA Championship last month, but the Perth product will be hoping that her winning ways can last just a little bit longer.

Only seven women have ever claimed a career grand slam, but Australia's Minjee Lee is hoping to enter rare air off the back of a big performance at the British Open.

After winning the Women's PGA Championship in June, the U.S. Women's Open in 2022 and the Evian Championship in 2021, a win at Royal Porthcawl will mark Lee's fourth Major and official career grand slam status.

"All the majors are a great motivator for me, so yes, I definitely want to win it [the British Open] at some stage and be able to get the career grand slam," Lee said.

"That would be absolutely amazing … and now that I look back at it right now, this is what I can say: that's quite a big motivation for me to try and get over the line.

"[The Women's British Open] is going to be a really great challenge, you have to be really strong off the tees, with driver, whatever you have off the tee, and then the wind and the way the holes are shaped, it's kind of tricky.

"There's a lot of shots that go up into the air and the green's are a little bit lower, so you can't really see where they land. There's a couple of blind shots. So it reminds me of an in-between links and kind of a regular golf course, but without trees.

"The landscape is really lovely and you can see the ocean, so it just feels like it's going to be a great trip, just a good test."

With the LPGA having five officially listed majors, the tour's rules stipulate that any player who claims four has completed a career grand slam.

If a player is able to win all five, they are recognised as winning a Super Career Grand Slam, with Karrie Webb the only player to have achieved this honour.

If she is unable to get the job done in Wales, her next chance at the career grand slam will come next April at the Chevron Championship.
