What did Tottenham boss Thomas Frank say ahead of his Champions League debut?
Tottenham appointed Frank as their new manager in June following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, who led Spurs to their first major trophy (2024-25 Europa League title) in 17 years.
Frank signed a three-year contract with Spurs after his seven-year tenure at Brentford.
While speaking in the pre-match press conference, Frank mentioned that he is 'hugely looking forward' to the upcoming Champions League clash and said,
"It's a big thing. I'm hugely looking forward to it. I know it'll be special when we have that Champions League anthem playing. Now it's preparation, there's a few more cameras, but it's business as usual. When we all go out onto the pitch tomorrow then it'll be special," as per BBC Sport.
The Danish manager also expressed confidence in his squad while hailing Spurs' immediate opponents in the competition as a 'very good team,' and added,
"I believe I have a fantastic squad and we would like to go as far as possible. I think the most important thing is that it's one game at a time. Villarreal are a very good team, I've been very impressed when I've studied them, but we'll do everything we can to get a good start. It's going to be a good challenge."
When asked to share his opinion on the Champions League format, Frank replied,
"I am open to different things. It is interesting."
Tottenham and Villarreal have not faced each other in the Champions League before.
