Australia and New Zealand will face off for the first time since 2011 when they play a friendly at Suncorp Stadium on September 22.

The Socceroos haven't played since securing their spot at the 2022 World Cup with a penalty shootout win over Peru.

It wasn't such a happy ending for the All Whites in qualifying for Qatar as the Kiwis lost their decisive playoff against Costa Rica 1-0.

Both Australia and New Zealand have named large squads for this match with another friendly to be played on Sunday in Auckland.

Socceroos vs. New Zealand projected lineups and team news

Graham Arnold has named a 31-man squad for these friendlies against New Zealand.

A number of players are looking to make their Socceroos debuts with 18-year-old attacker Garang Kuol among them.

After stumbling through World Cup qualifying, Australia's squad remains far from settled and these friendlies will give new faces a chance to step up ahead of Qatar.

Arnold has suggested he'll name two different starting sides for these two games and will likely opt to field the stronger XI for this clash on home soil.

Socceroos projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Ryan (GK) — Atkinson, Sainsbury, Degenek, King — Mooy, Irvine — Mabil, Hrustic, Boyle —  Maclaren.

Danny Hay has named a more conservative 24-man New Zealand squad for these matches against Australia.

Newcastle United forward Chris Wood will likely lead the line with five Wellington Phoenix players pushing for selection.

Marko Stamenic has been impressing for FC Copenhagen this season and has featured in the Champions League alongside Socceroo Maty Ryan.

These friendlies will the final international games played by veteran defender Winston Reid, who has confirmed he will be hanging up the All Whites jersey later this month.

The All Whites have recently favoured playing three at the back with wingbacks but have notably failed to score in their past three matches.

Hay admitted this week that his side will be underdone ahead of this first friendly and will only train once together as a full team.

New Zealand projected starting lineup (3-1-4-2): Sail (GK) — Tuiloma, Reid, Pijnaker — Bell — Payne, Cacace, Stamenic, Garbett —  Greive, Wood.

Socceroos vs. New Zealand betting odds and prediction

Playing at home and as the team that qualified for the 2022 World Cup, Australia will come into this match as favourites.

Both teams have been struggling for form in 2022, however, with the Socceroos set to be tested by a New Zealand side with plenty of promising players.

Goalscoring is a concern for both sides with Australia scoring just four goals across their past five matches, while the All Whites are enduring a three-game goal drought.

The Socceroos haven't lost to New Zealand since 2002 and it's hard to see the Kiwis sneaking a result in Brisbane.

Prediction: Australia to win 3-1
