Man United vs. Athletic Club score: UEFA Europa League result, stats as Mount, Casemiro put Red Devils in final image

It will be an all-Premier League affair in the UEFA Europa League final as Manchester United booked their place at the San Mames with a 4-1 win over Athletic Club that saw them advance 7-1 on aggregate.

There were some concerns at halftime as Mikel Jauregizar's impressive first-half strike had Athletic Club in front on the day and within a shout of the 3-0 first-leg United aggregate advantage, but Mason Mount came off the bench to score a fabulous brace and put any fears to bed.

Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund also found the net late in the match after things were well and truly wrapped up, making sure the world knew who was deserving of the place in the final.

The Red Devils will meet fellow English side Tottenham in late May, with both sides struggling in Premier League action but making no mistake in Europe.

Man United vs. Athletic Club live updates, highlights from Europa League

FULLTIME: Man United 4 (7-1) 1 Athletic Club

There was some trepidation at halftime, but Manchester United left no doubts by the final whistle, as the Red Devils win 4-1 on the day and 7-1 on aggregate. A deafening statement by the home side as they book a place in the Europa League final!

90+1 min: GOAL! MAN UNITED! They're scoring for fun now, as Mason Mount scores his second of the game from miles away!!!!! You have to be kidding me!

The Athletic goalkeeper, in possession miles from his own goal, passes it straight to Mount who's not far off the halfway line, and he accepts the gift with appreciation by sending the ball over the head of Agirrezabala and into the net! It's from at least 40 yards out if not more!

85th min: GOAL! MAN UNITED! RASMUS HOJLUND JOINS THE PARTY AS MAN UNITED ARE POURING IT ON LATE!

Amad Diallo cooks two Athletic Club defenders, who have all but given up at this point, on the end line before he feeds the ball right to the face of goal, and the little poke wrong-foots the goalkeeper and falls to Hojlund right there on the goal mouth. All he has to do is flick it in, and he does just that, unable to miss from literally inches away!

80th min: GOAL! MAN UNITED! CASEMIRO'S HEADER PUTS MAN UNITED WITHOUT A DOUBT INTO THE FINAL!

A set-piece delivery from the right is fed low towards the Brazilian at the near post, and he expertly lowers his body into a crouch and flicks the ball across the face of goal and inside the far post!

It's his last action of the match, as Casemiro is replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, while Harry Amass replaces Victor Lindelof.

79th min: Two Athletic players, Unai Nunez and Alex Berenguer, are both booked for dissent as their frustration boils over into anger directed at the official.

72nd min: GOAL! MAN UNITED! MASON MOUNT PUTS THE TIE TO BED! It's a glorious strike from the substitute who receives the ball with his back to goal, wheels around on the turn and slots it perfectly inside the far post! A sensational finish!

Athletic Club have been the better side for much of the second half, but it's not come close to paying off, and their grip on the match was starting to loosen since the subs. There's the deathblow.

After the goal, Benat Prados has been forced off, as the substitute is lasts just 11 minutes before an injury brings Mikel Vesga into the match.

67th min: The new subs have yet to make a real noticeable impact, as Athletic Club make another change bringing on Gorka Guruzeta for Unai Gomez.

Olabarrieta goes for goal from a long way out, but he scuffs a weak shot wide of the right post as Andre Onana gives it a half-hearted fall dive.

62nd min: Ruben Amorim did not have Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, and Amad Diallo from the start tonight, but all three are set to come on for the final half-hour, which on paper would make the Red Devils an even better side as they're constructed. Manuel Ugarte, Noussair Mazraoui, and Alejandro Garnacho are the ones to make way.

Athletic do the same, bringing on a few of their own as Oscar de Marcos, Benat Prados, and Aingeru Olabarrieta all enter in a corresponding triple change. It's the first appearance of the season for Olabarrieta, who also makes his European debut.

58th min: Casemiro is booked for a late challenge with his hip that sends Alvaro Djalo flying.

United have had very little of the ball so far in the second half, but they don't exactly seem interested in changing that, and are happy to sit back and let Athletic Club try and find a way through, which so far they have failed to do.

52nd min: So far, Athletic Club have done very little with their possessional majority early on in the second half. A set-piece is wasted as Alex Berenguer's delivery from the right of the penalty area is way too deep and a foul in the area negates the chance anyways.

2nd half kickoff: They're back under way for an intriguing 45 minutes of action at Old Trafford. Both sides will have concerns about the first half of action: Man United for obvious reasons that their aggregate lead has been trimmed, while Athletic will know they need to provide more of an attacking threat to have any realistic chance of a comeback.

HALFTIME: Man United 0 (3-1) 1 Athletic Club

Man United have overall done quite well at the midway point of this match, generating better chances and coming close to putting the tie to bed. Yet it's the visitors who have the all-important first goal in this match, and that will leave plenty of doubts for the home fans.

Athletic Club haven't really done all that much in the attacking third so far, generating just four shots worth 0.20 xG, but the sweet strike by Mikel Jauregizar has meant they have hope of a famous turnaround. They'll need to be better in the second half to make good on that fleeting thought, though.

43rd min: Chance, Man United! OH NO GARNACHO'S MISSED A HUGE ONE! He's clean through on goal with nobody but Agirrezabala to beat, and he goes for the chip but puts it agonizingly wide left!

39th min: Athletic's goal scorer Jauregizar is booked for stepping on the foot of a Man United player.

36th min: Bruno Fernandes goes to shoot from just inside the top of the penalty area, but Patrick Dorgu appears and takes the ball off him, using his body position to skip past a defender and get in a much more dangerous zone, but he is closed down again and his shot is blocked.

Dorgu probably did do the right thing and found a better position to shoot from as a result, but you do wonder if he should have left the United captain that opportunity instead.

31st min: GOAL! ATHLETIC CLUB! HERE WE GO, THE TIE IS BACK ON! Mikel Jauregizar has just unleashed a stunner from distance which catches everyone off guard and beats Andre Onana into the top-right corner!

It comes off a terrible giveaway from Harry Maguire, whose pass into the middle for Lenny Yoro is way off the mark and stolen inside the Man United defensive third. It first falls to Alvaro Djalo whose rip is blocked right in front, but the rebound falls to Jauregizar who unleashes a delicious curler which weaves around the defender and inside the right post!

VIDEO: Watch Athletic Club goal in USA | Watch in UK | Watch in Canada | Watch in Australia

24th min: After Rasmus Hojlund was called for a foul chasing a potential counter-attack, the referee goes back and books Noussair Mazraoui for a wayward elbow during a previous aerial duel which was played for advantage.

22nd min: Chance, Man United! Bruno Fernandes unlocks the Athletic Club back line again, with Patrick Dorgu through down the left side. Andoni Gorosabel gives chase having been beaten by the run, and he clumsily bundles Dorgu over!

The United players are all up in arms, and they have good reason to be, as it was a very awkward and physical challenge from behind, but the referee waved it away, and at that point there's really nothing VAR can do. While it did look to be enough for a foul to some officials, it's not quite clear and obvious, so play continues. Another let-off for Athletic, who have clearly made some sacrifices at the back given the needs of the day!

21st min: As he was in the first leg before being sacrificed following the red card, Alex Berenguer has been the most dangerous threat to Andre Onana's goal. He rifles a shot from out top the penalty area that skitters wide of the left post, never truly looking likely to trouble the net but also not far off either.

16th min: Chance, Man United! Alejandro Garnacho flubs a wonderful chance to put the aggregate score to bed early! An incisive counter-attack sees Bruno Fernandes deliver a glorious through-ball perfectly timed to an onside Garnacho, but the Argentine is indecisive and fails to react in time! With Agirrezabala charging out of his goal, Garnacho doesn't know what to do with it, and instead of shooting his brain locks up and he just taps it right into the goalkeeper's arms!

13th min: Athletic Club have been the side with more intent thus far, as you'd expect given the circumstance. The visitors have had nearly all the possession, but so far have only managed to generate the lone chance for Berenguer.

United come close to a breakaway opportunity for Alejandro Garnacho, but Agirrezabala comes miles off his line to clear the feed forward, closer to the halfway circle than his own penalty area when he finally hoofs the ball away.

9th min: Chance, Athletic! Alex Berenguer has a big chance to get the early goal necessary, but after receiving a cutback from Unai Gomez in absolute acres of space, he takes ages to loose his shot, and the eventual effort is a long way away from the target of the top-right corner.

That would have been an eye-popping start for Athletic, but they can't convert!

Kickoff: They're under way at Old Trafford!

Man United vs. Athletic Club: Pre-match commentary, analysis, more

30 mins to kickoff: Man United boss Ruben Amorim is hoping that Man United can not only win tonight's game, but bottle up the Old Trafford atmosphere to take with them if they do indeed finish the job and reach the Europa League final. Kickoff is right around the corner!

45 mins to kickoff: Rasmus Hojlund did a somewhat awkward but somewhat unique interview with UK broadcaster TNT Sports while signing shirts for fans outside the stadium. He said the team wants to not just advance but also win the game so they can advance without too much trouble.

A fan promised to get Hojlund's autograph tattooed on his arm, which...sure is a choice!

1 hour to kickoff: The new Pope was just announced today, as Pope Leo XVI was chosen at the Vatican. Athletic Club has taken a cheeky spin on the news as they will need their prayers answered if they wish to complete a comeback today!

1 hour 15 mins to kick: Lineups are in! Amad Diallo isn't quite ready to start yet for the Red Devils, but he is once again on the bench for Man United.

1 hour 30 mins to kick: Much has been made about Manchester United being exceptional in Europe this season, as the only unbeaten team left across all three major UEFA club competitions. But their success in the Europa League goes back even further, as they have been beaten at Old Trafford just once in their last 30 Europa League home games. Quite a run in front of the Manchester faithful!

1 hour 45 mins to kick: Incase the players needed a reminder what they're playing for, the Europa League trophy has made an appearance at Old Trafford today.

2 hours to kickoff: While most believe Man United have already booked a place in a European final, Ruben Amorim wants his players and supporters to realise there's still a job to do.

"We cannot take anything for granted until that task is complete," Amorim said in his matchday release on the Man United website. "We will need total focus and effort to keep control of the game, and the tie."

Man United vs. Athletic Club lineups, team news

Amorim made eight changes to the team that won in Bilbao for Sunday's league loss at Brentford, but he brings back several of his rested stars for this fixture.

The XI looks very similar to the one from the first leg, with Amad Diallo still on the bench, yet to make his first start since February. He came on to score over the weekend, but Ruben Amorim has decided to use the strong aggregate lead to bring him along slowly back to full fitness.

Matthijs de Ligt went off injured at the weekend and is unavailable today. Amorim has thusly chosen Victor Lindelof and Leny Yoro to start alongside Harry Maguire in the three-man defence, with Luke Shaw on the bench.

Diogo Dalot is out with a calf problem, while Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez will not play again this season.

Man United starting lineup (3-4-2-1): Onana (GK) — Lindelof, Maguire, Yoro — Mazraoui, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu — Fernandes, Garnacho — Hojlund.

Man United subs: Bayindir (GK), Heaton (GK), Amass, Fredericson, Kamason, Shaw, Eriksen, Mainoo, Mount, Diallo, Mantato.

Athletic's already slim comeback hopes were dealt a further blow when they left for Manchester without their three most dangerous attacking players.

Brothers Nico Williams and Inaki Williams are out with muscle problems, while top scorer Oihan Sancet has not recovered from the injury that kept him out of the first leg.

Dani Vivian is suspended after his red card last week, so Unai Nunez has taken his place in defence.

Athletic Club starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Agirrezabala (GK) — Gorosabel, U. Nunez, Y. Alvarez, Berchiche — de Galarreta, Jaureguizar — Djalo, Gomez, Berenguer — Sannadi.

Athletic Club subs: Simon (GK), Boiro (GK), Paredes, Lekue, de Marcos, Rego, Prados, Vesga, Canales, Olabarrieta, Guruzeta, Varela.
