Ange Postecoglou’s time as Nottingham Forest manager is over after just 39 days.

Less than 30 minutes after Saturday’s 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, Nottingham officials released a statement confirming the polarising Australian had been sacked.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect,” the statement said.

“The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

Postecolgou, 60, was only hired in September by club owner Evangelos Marinakis with his 39-day stint setting a new record for the shortest tenure for a permanent manager in English Premier League history.

The previous record had been held by Les Reed who lasted just 40 days as Charlton Athletic boss in 2006.
