Joe Cole heaps praise on Chelsea star for his performance against Benfica image

Chelsea managed to scrape past Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.

After the game, former Blues star Joe Cole was full of praise for how one Chelsea player left the Benfica players terrified.

New signing Alejandro Garnacho was impressive as his cross was turned into the back of the net for an own goal by Richard Rios for the only goal of the game, with fellow winger Pedro Neto impressing greatly with his performance.

The one area of the pitch where Enzo Maresca did not rotate was in midfield, where he continued with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

And it was the latter who caught Cole’s eye the most on the night, as he could not stop singing the Ecuadorian’s praises.

Caicedo has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent players this season, and he put in another impressive display on Tuesday night.

Joe Cole lauds Moises Caicedo’s performance against Benfica

Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez formed a formidable partnership in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield on Tuesday, and Cole was all praise for the former.

He told TNT Sports, “I thought he was outstanding. Every time we watch him, we’re blown away by him. He was just pickpocketing people. Mr Calm.

“They could not move. He was nicking it off them, he was finding passes, he was brilliant. It was getting to the point where the Benfica midfielders were receiving the ball, and they were petrified. He was everywhere.”

Caicedo has improved by leaps and bounds in the past couple of years and could be one of the first names on the teammate sheet for Enzo Maresca going into any game.

However, the Italian manager will have to find a way of managing the Ecuadorian’s minutes as the season progresses.
